Group lauds PM's directive
KUALA LUMPUR: Transparency International has lauded the
prime minister's move to disclose the assets of members
of his government, but stressed that the public should
also play its role.
"If you find a government servant living beyond his
means, you should report it," said TI president Tan Sri
Ramon Navaratnam.
"The asset declaration should include their spouses and
immediate families."
Navaratnam also said the instruction should apply to all
government and opposition members of parliament, as well
as state councillors and local council members.
He then threw down the gauntlet to state governments run
by the opposition.
"The menteris besar and chief minister should take up
the challenge and follow the advice of the PM and give
similar instructions to their excos.
"An independent commission or ombudsman should be
emplaced to monitor."
