In the spirit of transparency and good governance, Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) would urge the Madani government to expedite the process of mandating asset declaration by all public officials and Members of Parliament. Some GE15 election candidates were proactive and voluntary declared their assets before the elections. It is imperative that this practice be extended to all elected representatives and public officials without delay, said TI-M president Muhammad Mohan.
The recent discussions and decisions by the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, have highlighted the need for a new and improved format for asset declaration. This initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring accountability and preventing corrupt practices within our government.
We call upon the government to prioritize the implementation of this new format and make the asset declarations of all public officials and Members of Parliament publicly accessible. Transparency by way of asset declaration is not only a measure of integrity but also a fundamental aspect of building public trust in our democratic institutions.
We believe that the timely enforcement of this policy will reinforce the Madani government's commitment to transparency and good governance. It is our hope that this initiative will set a precedent for future administrations and contribute to a more accountable and transparent government.
We urge the government to act swiftly and decisively in this matter to build a positive image about reforms which in the long term will support Malaysia’s scoring and ranking in the Corruption Perceptions Index.
