Government Task Force on PKFZ press-releases

Press Releases

Transparency International – Malaysia (TI-M) welcomes and supports the formation of the top-level federal Task Force to be headed by Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, as an indication of the Government’s concern and commitment towards achieving accountability, integrity and transparency. Measures to investigate and redress the problems in PKFZ/PKA are of national concern and not only of the Ministry of Transport and its Minister, whereas this fiasco has serious implications for the public, the nation and the international image of Malaysia.

TI-M looks forward to good governance to be implemented in PKFZ/PKA. Current governance rules for government agencies must be revised to take into account the changing local and international environment and progress made by other countries, and the public expectation of better accountability, integrity and transparency. There must be systems, procedures and oversight to ensure that there are no further abuses of power or misuse of public funds by those who have been entrusted with power.

What is learnt from the PKFZ fiasco and measures taken can also be adopted by other governmental agencies.

TI-M urges the Government not to leave any stone unturned and to investigate without fear or favour in the PKFZ fiasco and in all other cases. All findings and recommendations should be made public and implemented, and prompt stern action must be taken against all wrongdoers even at the highest level.
