PRESS STATEMENT
Friday, 27 September 2013
After nearly two months since the tales of two Secretaries-General of Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) broke out, the matter has finally been resolved at the Registrar of Societies Selangor (ROS).
The ROS Selangor in a letter dated 26 September 2013, has confirmed that Dr Loi Kheng Min is the Secretary-General of the Malaysian Society for Transparency and Integrity (Transparency International Malaysia) who has been properly elected on 24 May 2013. Dr KM Loi has been with TI-M since 2000, and was once holding the post of Secretary-General in 2009.
The election of voting that was done on 24 May 2013 was also fully endorsed by Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) in Berlin, as conveyed by its Regional Director, Dr. Srirak Plipat in a letter dated 24th July 2013.
The fiasco started after former Secretary-General of TI-M, Ms. Josie Fernandez had failed to take over Datuk Paul Low’s position as President, and despite repeatedly said she would resign as Secretary-General, made the U-turn and claimed that she was still the Secretary-General.
Even the events after the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on 20th July 2013 do not augur well for the Society as Ms Fernandez appears to have been unsatisfied with the outcome of the EGM and continued to insist on maintaining her status as Secretary-General despite the resolutions of the EGM. With the final decision of the ROS’ inquiry on the matter and putting the above episode behind us, the Executive Committee calls upon all TI-M members to close ranks and work together to achieve TI-M’s objectives and contributing positively to the fight against corruption.
