Events - Roundtable Discussion on Rating the Raters: Accountability and Transparency Standards.

On 12 January 2026, Transparency International Malaysia kicked off the new year with a roundtable discussion on our latest report, Rating the Raters: Accountability and Transparency Standards. The report evaluates carbon credit rating agencies, the “gatekeepers” of Malaysia’s voluntary carbon market (VCM) to assess whether they operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability. These agencies play a vital role in verifying carbon credits, yet scandals such as Verra’s 2023 integrity crisis revealed systemic flaws and raised concerns about false emissions claims.

The session, initiated by Prof Dato’ Rajah Rasiah, Distinguished Professor of Economics and Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya, featured a presentation on the report’s findings and a productive stakeholder discussion on challenges and standards in Malaysia’s VCM. With this publication, TI-M continues its mission to advocate for stronger policies and integrity in carbon market practices.
