Transparency International Malaysia Chapter (“TI – M”) is most disappointed that the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, has said that “no action will be taken against the officers involved in the agreement with a private company for advertisements on pedestrian bridges”.
The agreement had been merely suspended, but unfortunately, not cancelled and TI – M deeply regrets that no action will be taken against the officers involved.
This is a gross violation of the principles of good governance, integrity and accountability.
Disciplinary action must be taken against the officers concerned, however good their intentions may have been. After all, the officers concerned had flouted the decision of the Menteri Besar and the Selangor State Executive Council.
The officers had also not followed the administrative rules and regulations which clearly stipulates that procedure must be adhered to in the variation of tender specifications and terms of contract.
The Menteri Besar will be letting down the taxpayer and the Rakyat if he does not take action against the culprits. He will be indirectly undermining public confidence and trust in the Selangor leadership and administration unless he holds a full-scale public inquiry on this blatant abuse of power and indifference shown to transparency in government.
TI – M appeals to His Highness, the Sultan of Selangor to intervene urgently in this matter and insist on a public inquiry in order to protect public interests and integrity of the state of Selangor.
