Transparency International – Malaysia (TI-M) welcomes and is encouraged by the Prime Minister’s announcement that combating corruption and improving the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) are included in the Key Result Areas (KRA). TI-M will render support and help to the government to truly achieve this objective and target. To assist the government in the open tender system, TI-M offers to provide and engage government agencies in the development and deployment of one of Transparency International’s anti-corruption tools, Integrity Pact (IP), which is to help governments, businesses and civil society to eradicate corruption in procurement.
Malaysia must strive to improve its ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index that saw the country falling from 39th place in 2004 to 47th last year. In order to improve our CPI ranking, among the challenges is to ensure that MACC shall be impartial, neutral and apolitical. It has to show high integrity in its investigations and have solid evidence to ensure successful prosecution, including of those in the high profile spectrum. It has to walk the talk. Only then will it be possible for Malaysia to improve its CPI ranking.
