TI-M Applauds ACAs Efforts in Combating Corruption

Press Releases

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) applauds the ACA’s efforts in combating corruption.

TI-Malaysia commends and encourages the ACA to more strenuously continue its efforts in investigating, arresting and prosecuting corrupted government officials and indeed those in the private sector too. The Prime Minister, in a written reply to a parliamentary question said that from 2005 until April 2007, the ACA had arrested 617 civil servants from various departments and 63.9% of the number was law enforcement personnel. At least 55.6% of them have been prosecuted while another 135 others were prosecuted for various offences.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that the members of the police force comprised the biggest number of law enforcement personnel detained and charged followed by the Customs, Road Transport, Immigration and other departments.

We welcome the initiatives and good results of the ACA and urge the ACA to keep up their good work. This will demonstrate that the government has stronger political will to combat the scourge of corruption, which can undermine Malaysia’s socio-economic growth and income distribution policies for now and the future. TI-M therefore will fully support the work of the ACA and hopes to see the ACA achieve even better results in this continuing struggle against corruption and in the promotion of integrity and transparency.
