Transparency International Malaysia calls for strong political will and leadership by the cabinet in combating corruption
Transparency International Malaysia (TI –M) welcomes the new cabinet line up as announced by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak. TI-M is glad to note that controversial individuals who are perceived to be corrupt were not appointed. The appointment of new faces that are competent and clean as ministers augurs well for the new administration. To improve the image and to be effective in combating corruption and instil a strong culture of integrity in his administration, the Prime Minister and his cabinet must provide the leadership and the strong political will to drive the message of zero tolerance for graft.
The message must also be given that corrupt officials at all levels of the government will be dealt with severely without fear or favour. At the same time, every ministry will have to put in place its delivery system with a high level of accountability and transparency in transactional decisions. Integrity tools such as integrity pacts between stakeholders could be used to institutionalize integrity in transactions and procurement.
