Press Releases

PRESS STATEMENT, 27 November 2014, KUALA LUMPUR – Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M) is organizing a “Walk Against Corruption” on 13 December, to commemorate the United Nation’s (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day.

The Walk is a yearly event, organised by TI-M since 2012.  The aim of the this year’s Walk is to demonstrate public support in fighting corruption across all sectors of society, as well as raise awareness on the issue of corruption and mobilising the youth in advocating against corruption.

The devastating impact of corruption to the nation as well as to individuals, is felt by all strata of society, regardless of class and ethnicity. It is imperative that the people of Malaysia make a public stand to combat corruption to achieve social justice and upholding their integrity.

In 2003, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly officially adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption and designated December 9 as the annual International Anti-Corruption Day, to raise people’s awareness of combating corruption and of the role of the Convention. In 2008, Malaysia ratified the Convention, joining a growing community of countries which have done so.

It is envisaged that through this event, the public can stand up and be counted that a zero tolerance approach towards corruption is essential for a clean and fair Malaysia, now and for the future generations.
