TI-M Calls for the Disclosure of the Independent Power Producers Agreements
Press Releases

It is in the public interest for the federal government to make public the agreements between Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the independent power producers (IPPs). The principles of transparency, good governance and accountability must be put into practice. As such, there are no other options except full disclosure of these agreements.

Any electricity tariff hike will impact Malaysian consumers, either directly or indirectly, as they will bear the burden of increased costs of goods and services. Free access to information is a fundamental right of all citizens and a basic tenet of the principles of Freedom of Information.
Malaysians have the right to know the contents of the TNB-IPPs agreements as they are directly affected by the recent electricity tariff hikes.

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) is disappointed that transparency and accountability has taken a back seat in energy pricing. The government must declassify the IPP agreements and not invoke the Official Secrets Act.

TI-M calls on the government to immediately declassify the IPP agreements to show its commitment to transparency and accountability.
