Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) supports Sultan of Selangor’s call to check on corruption
TI-M wholeheartedly supports the Sultan of Selangor HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s royal remarks calling for immediate action to be taken to check on corruption, bureaucratic red tape, race problems, religious intolerance, the brain drain and crime in this country in an interview published by The Star, Monday 13th August 13, 2007.
TI-M lauds the public pronouncement of HRH that graft is akin to cancer in society and it should be effectively checked if not wiped out entirely. TI-M believes the government has to step up efforts to enhance transparency in business dealings, public contracts procurements and operations of government in all levels and statutory agencies. The Special Task Force to Facilitate Business (PEMUDAH) set up to fast-track procedures and transactions between the Government and private sector is one commendable effort however Government has to exercise much greater Political Will to address pressing issues to make Malaysia more efficient and competitive and a better country as its pledge especially on its 50th Anniversary.
TI-M urges both the government and the private sectors to strengthen their commitment to promoting good governance, transparency, accountability and integrity in all aspects of public life in Malaysia by taking more concrete steps to instill a culture of intolerance for corruption and injustice for the benefit of all Malaysians, as urged by HRH The Sultan of Selangor.
