In Malaysia, TI-Malaysia started the BIP in 2011 and has gained much traction since its inception. Apart from engaging with the business sector directly, TI-Malaysia also participates in a government initiative known as Corporate Integrity System Malaysia (CISM). CISM is a conceptual framework set up by the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) and supported by various institutions in Malaysia. The main objective of the CISM initiative is to creating a business environment that is transparent, fair and corruption-free through the enhancement of corporate governance and business ethics.
At present, CISM has 8 Roundtable Partners:
- Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)
- Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM)
- Minister of Finance (Incorporated)
- Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM)
- Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE)
- TI-Malaysia (TI-M)
- Security Commission Malaysia (SC)
- Bursa Malaysia Berhad
As a CISM Implementation Partner, TI-Malaysia plays an important role in working with companies, state enterprises and other organisations to help them implement anti-corruption programmes. This enables TI-Malaysia to make a constructive contribution to advance the national anti-corruption agenda. TI-Malaysia’s involvement in CISM also forms a bridge between the government and civil society, helping ensure the voice of civil society is taken into account in the formulation of the integrity agenda for business. Furthermore, through our link with national chapters in more than 100 countries around the world, TI-Malaysia is able to introduce global best practices and materials, developed through TI’s well-established international business integrity work, to CISM and Malaysian companies.
